Vote 1 Jane WardA True Community Independent for SydneyVoting Day : Saturday, 21st August 2010 |
Commitment to Public HealthLiving in the United States convinced me that, while there is room for choice of private health services, no wholly user-pay health system is as efficient, cost-effective and universally applicable as the Australian system of public hospitals and medical care. Therefore Medicare and the bulkbilling system need to be kept, strengthened and extended to dental and optical services. Similarly Home Care, Respite Care, retirement accommodation, hostels, and nursing homes need to be affordable and provided locally so that people can live out their lives in their familiar area if they so choose. Mental Health facilities need to be close to communities and public transport. Rozelle Hospital must be retained and improved, with direct Federal funding. Buck-passing between State and Federal levels must be stopped. |
