Funding for Community Based Services

For the past 19 years, I have been the Co-ordinator of Lone Parent Family Support Service. I find this job rewarding as it entails working with many remarkable single mums, dads and children. Being poorly funded, it is also a constant reminder of government wastage and the neglect of the many grassroots community services which are unable to meet increasing social needs and struggling with miserly budgets.

Family Support Services must be provided with direct federal funding to meet the increased workload advocated by Justice Woods in his Royal Commission Report on NSW DoCS Child Protection.

I advocate a National Disability Insurance Scheme and additional and ongoing support for Carers and Young Carers.

State and federal governments must stop passing the buck on funding vital community based services.
